원래 제목은 Did Everyone Pay Their Dues?로 가사도 다른 노래였다고 한다. 하지만 믹 재거가 68운동의 시위현장에 깊은 감명을 받아[1] 가사가 지금과 같이 만들어졌다. Beggars Banquet 앨범의 리드싱글이었지만 반사회적인 곡이라고 생각했던 많은 라디오 DJ들이 이 곡을 거의 틀어주지 않아 성적이 저조했다. 게다가 발매 시즌이 시카고 민주당 전당 대회 기간이라 폭동을 부추길 수도 있다는 명목으로 시카고 라디오 방송에서는 이 곡을 아예 송출거부했다. 빌보드 차트에 48위로 올라왔고 영국은 한술 더 떠 2년 뒤 1970년에 싱글 발매되었다.

- 싱글버전으로 따로 있으며 컴플리션에서는 한번씩 들어있는 경우가 많다. 앨범과 차이는 모노에 노이즈가 심하고 보컬이 뒤로 밀려 악기들에 뭉쳐들리지만 악기음을 많이 강조하다보니 음이 노이즈와 겹쳐 오히려 가장 잘 어울린다는 평을 받고 있다.
