1. 개요

본명은 플로리언 클라우드 더보니빌 암스트롱(Florian Cloud De Bounevialle Armstrong)이며 특유의 몽환적이고 평화로운 목소리와 음악 스타일로 사랑받는 영국의 가수이다.

1971년 12월 25일 영국 런던 켄싱턴에서 태어났다. 95년 오빠 롤로 암스트롱이 이끄는 밴드 Faithless에 구성원으로 낸 데뷔 앨범 Reverence가 500만 장씩이나 팔려나가자 얼마 후 솔로로 전향, 솔로로서의 첫 앨범인 No Angel을 발매한다. 처음엔 그저 그런 성적이었지만 2000년, No Angel의 수록곡 Thank You가 에미넴의 곡 Stan에 샘플링되고 그 노래가 전 세계적 히트를 치자 그녀의 원곡도 덩달아 히트치며 1집 No Angel은 1500만 장에 육박하는 판매고를 기록하고, Thank You는 빌보드 차트 3위까지 올라갔다.
이어 2집 Life For Rent도 대표곡이 빌보드 2위, 앨범도 1000만 장씩이나 팔리는 대히트를 치며 일약 스타로 급부상하였다.

다이도 효과는 영국의 여섯 집 중 한 집은 다이도의 앨범을 하나씩은 다 갖고 있다는 것을 빗댄 말로, 영국에서의 그 인기를 단적으로 드러낸다. 이외 다이도 플립이라는 헤어스타일을 유행시키기도 했다.

2020년대 기준으로 전성기가 지나서 덜하지만 [1] 그래도 영국에서 인기가 확고한 편이라 새 앨범이 나오면 차트에 진입하는 가수기도 하다.
