Anthology 시리즈의 첫 앨범이며, 녹음일 기준 1958년부터 1964년까지의 곡들을 담고 있다. 여태껏 공개되지 않았던 쿼리멘 시절, 정식 데뷔 이전의 곡들이 다수 담겨 있다. 특히 [[스튜어트 서트클리프]]와 [[피트 베스트]]가 참여한 곡들도 다수 담겨 있는데, 피트 베스트의 경우 이 앨범을 통해 벌어들인 수익이 이전에 벌어들였던 총 수입보다 훨씬 많았다고 할 정도였다. 이 앨범에는 쿼리멘이 1958년 7월 처음으로 녹음한 "That'll Be the Day"와 "In Spite of All the Danger"가 실려 있어 팬들에게 소중한 자료가 되었다. 특히 후자의 경우 유일무이한 매카트니-해리슨 넘버이자 비틀즈가 최초로 녹음한 자작곡이라는 점에서 그 의미가 매우 깊다고 할 수 있다. 그리고 무엇보다 1970년 이후 25년 만에 비틀즈의 신곡이 발표되었다.
